The Museum of Volos City is the first and only modern City Museum in Greece up to this time. It presents the daily activity of the city inhabitants from the 19th century until today, in a contemporary manner, while it constitutes a study of the history of Greek cities and the development of the Greek region, highlighting the evolution of the city in modern Greece.
The museum has sections for the industrial heritage, the memories of the residents (refugee story, photographic documents, etc.), major events that took place in Greece and how these impacted on the city, the most important events of Volos, its architecture etc. In the courtyard of the museum there is a part of the east wing of the byzantine wall, on the hill of Palaia (Old Town).
At the ground floor, there are many temporary exhibitions and events, a gift shop, and a reading room. It is located in Palaia, 15, Feron Street, and is housed in the building of the former tobacco warehouse of Papantos, which was built around 1920.
