Volos Town Hall, an outstanding architectural building of the city, is located in Rigas Feraiou Square, in a prominent position, among trees, pedestrian streets and sculptures.

Until the devastating earthquakes of 1955, the Municipality was housed in the Skenderani Mansion, an excellent sample of late 19th century eclectic architecture at the junction of Dimitriados and Topalis Street.

After assessing the building as inappropriate due to the damage caused by the earthquakes, the Municipality decided to demolish it. The construction of the new building was completed in 1970 under the mayoralty of Georgios Kartalis, according to the plans of the architect Dimitris Pikionis, following the standards of Pelion architecture, in order to connect the city with the port and Mount Pelion. The inauguration took place in 1971.
