Since antiquity,May Day was devoted to the celebration of nature. It was a celebration to honor Demeter goddess and god Dionysus, the fertility of nature and to welcome the month of flowers. May Day coincides with the revolution of the labor unions in Chicago in 1886, to claim better working conditions and it is a holiday.)

May Day Events in Trikeri- Trikeri Traditional Wedding (May 1st)

The event is organized on May Day with great success, both in the fields andin the village of Trikeri, as a tradition for many years now. In that event, all women,especially the village girls, wear the magnificent traditional costume and meet at thevillage square. They make flower wreaths, which they hang on the door of theirhouses with a pink or a red ribbon. The celebration includes music and traditional dances. This is organized by the Cultural Association of Trikeri

May "Flower Festival" in Alli Meria (May 1st)

Every year on May Day, the “Flower Festival” takes place in Alli Meria.There is an exhibition of flowers from the local flower producers, and visitors can admire the variety of flowers colors. They can also buy flowers at very reasonable prices. The “Flower Festival” is open from morning to evening. At the end of the feast there is a folk festival in the central square. This is organized by the Cultural Association of Alli Meria village.

Festival of Traditional Seeds and Ecological Garden in Stagiates

It is organized by the Independent Action Group of Pelion in early May as an effort to preserve what is left of traditional seeds and spread the idea of the ecological garden. The celebration of the traditional seed is part of the continuing involvement ofthe locals in the preservation and dissemination of local seeds involving sowing,planting, cultivating and harvesting both in individual-family gardens as well as in the Community Garden Of Stagiates (at the yard of the Community Centre for Tradition And Culture). In the festival area there is an exhibition/bazaar of green products and also practical knowledge workshops are held for children and adults.

Meeting of Children Folk Dance Groups in Portaria (May or June)

The Sports and Cultural Association "Orminio" with the assistance of the Local Community of Portaria and proffesionals of the region continue their effforts to highlight the folk culture and particular the traditional dances through this meeting that takes place for over twenty years.For Portaria any reference to folk culture is strongly associated with the history of the country, the local manners andcustoms and the revivals of modern times resulting from folk tradition. Children folk dance groups take part in the event.
