European Music Day Festival in Volos

The Tourist & Development Association of Tsagarada, in cooperation with the Regional Units of Magnesia and North Sporades, organizes the Festival Mountain &Marine Sports. A 4-day getaway event filled with action, adrenaline and endless fun.Hiking, downhill canyon, climbing, trail running, archery, classic shooting, horseriding, sea canoeing and many more outdoor activities and seminars, parties andthemed events are held in the magical Pelion environment that combines bothmountain and sea in a unique way.

The custom of “Klidonas”

The Klidonas custom takes place in Afetes, Mouresi, Agios Ioannis beach and other villages during the celebration of Agios Ioannis Prodromos (St. John the Baptist) on 24th June. It is the custom for girls who seek to guess their fate and has its roots in antiquity. On the eve of the celebration, on 23rd June, unmarried girls gather in a house and one of them get sone pitcher and goes to the fountain of the village to fill it with water. On the way to the fountain and back, she is careful not to utter a word during the process. Every girlis looking for a sign pointing to the man she is supposed to marry. The representation of the custom is accompanied by traditional dances while the event closes with theburning of the May flower wreaths on the day of the celebration.

Cherry Festival in Agios Lavrentios

The Cherry Festival is an institution for the region since it first started 25 years ago, when agriculture dominated the financial activities of the villagers. The membersof the Women’s Development Association of Agios Lavrentios have characteristically said that the festival aims to celebrate the memory of cherry production since it is now carried out by very few producers or is restricted to domestic consumption. Guests have the opportunity to taste local cherry varieties and the traditional spoon sweets lovingly prepared by the housewives of the village and also to have fun with dancesand music in the “welcoming” square of Agios Lavrentios, in the breeze of the 3rdweek of June
