Wine Festival in New Anchialos
The “Wine Festival New Anchialos” has become an institution for the regionsince it was organized in 1960, fun excitement and festive activities prevail, similar towhat was customary during the vine harvest days in Anchialos of Eastern Rumelia.The passion for viticulture remains the most important common cultural parameter ofthe Old and New Anchialos. Continuing this tradition, the Wine Festival of NewAnchialos is organized during the first 10 days of August, attracting many visitorsfrom Volos and the region of Thessaly, in a truly beautiful and welcoming locationclose to the sea. Free cooled wine from the Agricultural Production Cooperative ofNew Anchialos “DIMITRA” is offered to all guests. The event’s programme includesGreek feast evenings with local artists, island songs, traditional folk songs andmodern popular hits.

Olive Festival in Drakeia, Pelion
The olive festival is organized by the Development/Cultural Association“DRAKEIA”, in cooperation with the Municipality of Volos, the AgriculturalCooperative of Drakeia and the local council. It takes place in the first 10 days ofAugust with four-day events including a folk feast, theatrical performances, cooking contest, children’s games and activities for adults in Kato Square and the chapel of Agios Spyridon. Free participation in all events.

Pelion wedding revival in Portaria
The Pelion Wedding consists of a series of popular events which indirectlysuggest and demonstrate the communion, the absolute involvement and theidentification of the guests -namely the whole village- with the newlyweds. In thecentral square of Portaria “Melina Merkouri” and in front of the two Pelion rooms ofthe bride and groom constructed for this purpose with old utensils, the tradition beginswith the engagements, continues with the cutting of the wedding dress, covered withflour and closes with the wedding. In both evenings, traditional dances from Pelionand other parts of Greece are performed by the dance group “Orminio”. Finally, in themain square in a specially designed area, there is an exhibition of local agriculturalproducts where local wine and tsipouro are offered to the public, with appropriatemezedes, since tradition has it that all guests are offered a treat during a wedding.When the customs are completed, there is a folk feast. The organization is undertakenby the Sports & Cultural Association “Orminio” of Portaria during the last 10 days of August.

Peach Festival in Agios Vlasios
Agios Vlasios honors the main agricultural product of the area, which is the main pillar of the local economic growth: the lemony yellow peach. This excellentand fragrant fruit supports for decades, and continues to support the local community.The event, which takes place at “Kapsala” square, includes speeches related to the cultivation and trade of the product as well as of environmental interest and after that there is a folk feast with live music. It is organized by the Cultural Association of Agios Vlasios.
